What I Heard This Morning (Sort of): METZ

90s victims, strap on your Docs, touch-up your tribal ink, reactivate your piercings and pull the flannel out of retirement: Sub Pop has acquired a throwback. The band is called METZ. Check out the teaser.

Sub Pop signs METZ; S/T debut album out October 9th!
Summer tour dates include NXNE appearances this weekend!

Watch a preview of the METZ album.

Sub Pop Records has signed the ferocious Toronto-based trio METZ and will release the band’s debut full-length worldwide on October 9th, 2012. The band has created a concise video piece previewing the album, which is available
here.

METZ will perform two shows at NXNE in Toronto this weekend: June 15th at Wrongbar, and June 16th at the Phoenix. This will be followed by a one-off show on June 22nd in Seattle at Barboza, and a festival performance on August 3rd in Sackville, NB at Sappyfest. METZ will then head out on a week-long tour, beginning August 24th in Chicago, IL at Bottom Lounge and ending September 1st in Brooklyn, NY at Death by Audio. Full tour dates below.

About METZ:As their name suggests, Toronto’s METZ are short, sharp and to the point. They play minimal post-punk with enough of a grasp of melody and dynamics to appeal to the more casual listener.

Having been on the city's live circuit since relocating from Ottawa in 2009, their chaotic live performances have quickly gained repute as some of the city's best. And, if a fraction of their on-stage energy translates to their October 2012 debut, a crossover to the precariously fey mainstream indie world is not out of their reach.

Confrontational without being contrived and contorted without being convoluted, METZ are working rapidly outward from a pretty rare niche and are one band whose buzz is certain to induce violent shaking.

What people are saying about METZ:

“METZ have released a few great singles so far…If you dig AmRep, Brainiac, and McLusky and songs that employ that metallic "SHRIIIIIINNG," you are not going to want to miss these guys.” – Brooklyn Vegan

“Apparently there are bands from Canada who have balls. Sharing their name with my favorite baseball team—at least phonetically—Toronto's METZ bring the raw, early ‘90s hardcore sludge back with a vengeance. Culling from Sub Pop's early catalog (think Melvins, Dwarves, Bleach era), these Canucks have been spewing the noise to great reception for the better part of two years.” – Impose

“With layers of abstract guitar noise and pummeling drums, songs such as "Negative Space" flailed and thrashed before us before being bludgeoned to a sudden death. Just as suddenly METZ were leaving the stage, leaving us punch-drunk and disoriented in their wake.” - BlogTO
