Matmos: The Consuming Flame (Video Excerpts)

Image
Last August, object-core duo Matmos released a 3-hour mammoth of a triple-LP titled The Consuming Flame: Open Exercises in Group Form . Being that each installation of this release clocks in about an hour, Matmos released a playlist of excerpts with accompanying video to select and consume.  The Consuming Flame: Open Exercises in Group Form is out now via Thrill Jockey . The group's 2019 release, Plastic Anniversary, was reviewed for No Ripcord . Via Thrill Jockey: Following the release of their new album The Consuming Flame: Open Exercises in Group Form , and a recent performance Bandcamp live showcasing new video pieces, electronic duo Matmos have shared five new excerpt music videos. Included in the set is a video for excerpt "Friendsylum" directed by Ed Apodaca, as well as excerpts "Circle of Swords" (featuring clipping.), "Blessed Order Of", "Boomchicka", and "Maybeism", the latter four of which were created by the band. More music from OSEES. Let it never be said that John Dwyer doesn't know how to make the most out of quarantine. "Don't Blow Your Experiment" premiered at Consequence of Sound and is featured in an upcoming new album called Panther Rotate , a remix collection of tracks culled from the recently released  Protean Threat . Got all that? The album is scheduled to release on December 11th (or, November 13th; I've seen both dates) via Castle Face. You can pre-order the digital release .  And since Protean Threat was brought up, a new video for "Red Study" is ready to be watched/absorbed/enjoyed/etc.      In addition, a single called "Electric War" was released a few days ago. The track is featured on what is now a digital album called, Metamorphosed . Release date is October 16th, 2020 and it's up for pre-order . Midweek Jazz — William Parker & Josh Johnson

On what would have been John Coltrane's 94th birthday, some jazz releases to consider for this midweek entry… First, a 10-LP box set titled Migration of Silence Into and Out of the Tone World by bassist William Parker will be released on January 29th, 2021 via Centering Records and AUM Fidelity .  As a primer for this collection, a compilation of material extracted from the box set is available called Trencadís . Immediately evidentiary is that Parker's creative and compositional reach is excitingly vast. You can listen to that here:   Trencadís [ a selection from Migration of Silence Into and Out of The Tone World ] by William Parker Via Fully Altered Media: “The music in this boxed set is dedicated to all people in the world who are searching for freedom – those who want to eliminate hate, racism, sexism, greed and lies in their lifetime.” — William Parker That William Parker is a bassist, composer and bandleader of extraordinary spirit and imaginative drive is common knowl
