What I Heard This Morning: The Gaslamp Killer

"In the Dark" is a new single/video from LA producer William Bensussen, who is better known as The Gaslamp Killer.  The single is pretty sleek and ominous, string ensembles merged with John Carpenter-evocative tones.  The video certainly helps enhance the atmosphere of the track.

Los Angeles' William Bensussen, aka The Gaslamp Killer, is proud to share the music video for Breakthrough highlight "In The Dark". The clip was directed by HYPERBALLAD (Dano Cerny and Marielle Tepper) in a forest outside Prague and in a medieval crypt built in the 12th century. Inspired by the mystic beauty of the song, the directing duo chose to shoot in Prague because of the city's ancient connection to the occult. The video also includes blended images which represent contrasting cycles of light and dark, male and female and good and evil. These are basic forces that informed the writing of the song and are emotions that we are all connected to through both our creation and demise.

The Gaslamp Killer is perhaps best known for his untamed live DJ sets which blend traditional genres of rock into the outer reaches of hip-hop and the deep into the cosmic pressure of the heaviest electronic beats, with plenty of obscurity and bizarreness in-between. In addition to his DJ sets and production work, The Gaslamp Killer, along with Daddy Kev, is the co-founder of the now infamous LA club-night Low End Theory which showcases underground beatsmiths alongside established names such as Thom Yorke and Erykah Badu. After over 10 years of performing and making music as The Gaslamp Killer, his debut LP
Breakthrough was released in 2012. The LP's unusual synthesis of California-inspired psych and eclectic world influences quickly brought national and world-wide attention to the Southern Californian.
