Only 7 Inches? — Le Butcherettes & Death Valley Girls split

Image
Two cuts from Le Butcherettes and Death Valley Girls: "The Universe" and "When I'm Free" is a solid combo: 3 minutes of sugar-fueled  Nugget -pop backed with a harmonized array of multi-tracked vocal arrangements.  Tragically, the Suicide Squeeze-released split 7" is sold out ahead of the physical release date of 2/11. That said it's available to own digitally. https://deathvalleygirls.bandcamp.com/album/the-universe-b-w-when-i-m-free  Via Stereo Sanctity: Speaking about the release, Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes said "I'm such a huge admirer of Death Valley Girls, so I was touched and surprised when they came up with the idea of doing a split vinyl together. Immediately I knew I wanted to cover one of my favorite songs of theirs, "The Universe," in support of their brilliant new single, "When I'm Free." A true honor to be a part of their EP!" Bonnie Bloomgarden of Death Valley Girls also commented ...

OSEES: "Don't Blow Your Experiment" & "Red Study"

Image
More music from OSEES. Let it never be said that John Dwyer doesn't know how to make the most out of quarantine. "Don't Blow Your Experiment" premiered at Consequence of Sound and is featured in an upcoming new album called Panther Rotate , a remix collection of tracks culled from the recently released  Protean Threat . Got all that? The album is scheduled to release on December 11th (or, November 13th; I've seen both dates) via Castle Face. You can pre-order the digital release .  And since Protean Threat was brought up, a new video for "Red Study" is ready to be watched/absorbed/enjoyed/etc.      In addition, a single called "Electric War" was released a few days ago. The track is featured on what is now a digital album called, Metamorphosed . Release date is October 16th, 2020 and it's up for pre-order . Metamorphosed by Oh Sees Via Tell All Your Friends PR:  In the swirling & undulant warm mud of jettisoned reels of magnetic tape, ...

What's (Re)New — Thee Oh Sees / Oh Sees / OCS on 8-Track

Image
Photo Credit: 5Seven Records If you check out the 5Seven Records website right now, you'll be confronted with an annoyingly unreadable nod to the days of GeoCities web pages, vivid green and yellow paragraphs typed out in Times with inactive underlining placed as if joking with the user: "Is it a link? Nope!". As if to drive home antiquity, you'll also be shown some info regarding John Dwyer 's new boxset, which compiles 8-track versions of his work dated 2008 till 2018. This includes records from Thee Oh Sees , Oh Sees , and OCS . It also contains a zine. I imagine the circle jerk comprised of collectors that commenced following this news was significant and led to multiple floods and drownings. While I'm not thrilled with the prospect of an unplayable boxset, (which is the case unless you own an 8-track player), the artifact(s) itself is something to look at. The cool factor is undeniable and there was certainly a lot of work put into it, but its impr...

New Selections — BARNETT+COLOCCIA, Dave Harrington Group, The Coathangers, Mörglbl, Dylan Henner, Good Fuck, Black Taffy

Image
The first full week of 2019 is at a close, so please enjoy this first batch of sounds.  BARNETT+COLOCCIA : "Copperworks" (via Rarely Unable /  SIGE Records  / Soundcloud) Via Rarely Unable: Barnett + Coloccia is the musical collaboration between Faith Coloccia ( Mamiffer , Mára and recently vocals on Jóhann Jóhannsson 's Mandy soundtrack) and Alex Barnett ( Oakeater , Champagne Mirrors ). Each record begins the same, with a reunion of two good friends catching up on life changes, new ideas on existence, magical occurrences, and difficult experiences. The ideas in the reunions between Faith and Alex plant the conceptual seeds for each song. The music itself takes influence from cinematic soundtracks, 20th century classical and early electronic music. The project is a true collaboration in the sense that the songs never end up as one person's vision, rather they end up somewhere new, where the whole is a strange extension beyond the sum of the p...

EP Talk — A Dainty Bit by AD.UL.T

AD.UL.T A Dainty Bit EP Released: 7.13.18 AD.UL.T is what Lightning Bolt or Hella may have sounded like had their members sat down for a month with Frank Zappa ’s 200 Motels and spun its host of ensemble-led absurdities while absorbing every intense, complex, and comedically taut second. From the vocal performance of the opening track “Pole Shift,” a nonsensical and undulating wall of queasy sound that glazes its otherwise reductive bass-n-drum musical progressions, AD.UL.T aims to generate and twist density and atmosphere into something both engaging and strange. For the span of its 10-minute runtime, A Dainty Bit is a packed listen, AD.UL.T’s shape of garage-infused punk prog to come demonstrated via raw harmonized calculation (“Slutty”), start-stop rhythmic and melodic shifts (“SELAH”) and a rather sinister closer (“700,000 FEMA Coffins”). For all its sensory plentitude, four tracks is the perfect length.  A Dainty Bit by AD.UL.T Sincerely, Letters From A Tapehead

Some new singles and others I've been meaning to post. Enjoy. Death Valley Girls :  " More Dead " (via Stereo Sanctity /  Suicide Squeeze  / YouTube) Via Stereo Sanctity: After recently announcing that their new album Darkness Rains is set for release on Oct 5th via Suicide Squeeze Records, Los Angeles doom boogie/dystopian punk/occult glam rockers Death Valley Girls have shared a new single & video entitled " More Dead ". Speaking about the new track, the band commented: "After having experiences with people we love struggling to stay alive, we believe the harder the battle, the less one is able to ask for help. We wanted to write a song about how important and necessary each person is, especially these days. We need numbers now more than ever to fight the good fight." The video director Dylan Mars Greenberg went on to add “I wanted to create a video that dealt with a serious issue that affected both Bonnie and I but in an abs...
