Gotta Read The Labels: RidingEasy Records

Image
Yes, it's April 20th.  4/20: The day all marijuana connoisseurs and casual appreciators light up as a community and celebrate their common love of altered reality.  Normally, I'd be combing through my music library trying to locate the perfect songs for the occasion and throwing together a nice little online compilation for everyone's enjoyment.  Instead, I'm going to take the opportunity to spotlight a series of stoner rock compilations from RidingEasy Records , Brown Acid , which, as of today, will see the release of its fourth installment.  Beginning with its first volume in 2015, Brown Acid is comprised of obscure stoner rock and proto-metal singles from the 60s and 70s, located and curated by Permanent Records ' Lance Barresi .  Collaborating with RidingEasy's Daniel Hill , Barresi's passion for digging up these largely forgotten tracks has offered new life to this music via this expanding collection.  So, since Brown Acid: The Fourth Trip is...

What's (Re)New?: Pentagram's First Daze Here & First Daze Here Too

Pentagram reissues.  Not much to say about this except, "Just take my money, Relapse Records." Check out the remastered "Forever My Queen" below.  Info and links come courtesy of Relapse Records.  PENTAGRAM: Relapse Announces Deluxe Reissues of First Daze Here And First Daze Here Too  Hear The Remastered Version of "Forever My Queen" now at YouTube   You can't talk about heavy metal without talking about PENTAGRAM. The legendary D.C. band has been committed to the dark arts for going on half a decade, and has only recently seen the kind of recognition its legacy deserves. Though the band has released nine influential full-lengths over the course of its career, PENTAGRAM's most popular and influential material since its Relapse resurrection fifteen years ago can be found in First Daze Here , a collection of the band's earliest works that has been out-of-print for years and will now finally see a new reissue via Relapse this coming J...

Good afternoon readers, It's possible that this news has already coursed through the navigable and applicable avenues of the world wide web and that my efforts are largely redundant at this point. Via Jagjaguwar: Black Mountain Unveil Record Store Day Single, Headline Roadburn Festival Afterburner. Jagjaguwar are proud to announce that Black Mountain will celebrate Record Store Day on Saturday April 16 by unleashing the third single from their third LP Wilderness Heart on seven inch vinyl. What I Heard This Morning: Exploding In Sound — Sonic Waves...

Image
Dan Goldin of Exploding In Sound continues to write, review and promote relevant music that few people talk about. Goldin’s latest labor of love, Sonic Waves , is his seventh free compilation and available for download. Give it a listen and offer Mr. Goldin some support; after all, he is sifting through a lot of radio-friendly dead weight to bring these albums to the masses and asking for nothing in return. Or, at the very least, he’s asking for your attention. The never ending search for great music has become a little bit easier, thanks to SONIC WAVES , the brand new digital compilation from tastemakers ExplodingInSound.com .  Download it for FREE [link below] today and come discover your next favorite band. The line-up is a dream come true for the folks at EIS, with songs from Karnivool, Oceansize, Alberta Cross, Dead Confederate, This Town Needs Guns, Native, Retribution Gospel Choir, Tera Melos, Sebastien Grainger, Shoes And Socks Off, Medications, Night Horse, Royal Ban...

The Mailbox Giveth: The Beatles Red & Blue compilations...

Image
Just when I thought the well runneth dry... The 1962-1966 ( Red ) and 1967-1970 ( Blue ) compilations were the first real Beatles ' greatest hits collection to emerge after the band broke-up in 1970. Both two record sets, the albums were originally issued in 1973 and have undergone the same painstaking remastering process as the Beatles' catalogue in '09. These arrived at my home yesterday and, to me, the compilations are more of a novelty item, something worthy of ownership under the following conditions: 1). You love the "now and then" photography on the front cover of each compilation. 2). Expanded liner notes and photographs. 3). Non-album singles are included if you don't own the Past Masters volumes. 4). The band's evolution is covered within four CDs. 5). You'd rather own the hits. 6). Also, there's free album cover posters and t-shirts if you pre-order through Beatles.com . Red and Blue remasters will be released October 18th. Click ...
