Welcome to the working week. Stereogum has the premiere and described the track as "immaculate." The band is in the middle of a winter / spring tour that includes a stop at SXSW and ends with a west coast run in late March. See full dates below. Bio: Everything about Winnipeg’s Living Hour has been expanding since their humble basement beginnings in 2015. What started with dreamy love songs inspired by the cinematic sky of their hometown has transformed into even more sprawling and expansive expressions on their latest effort, Softer Faces due March 1, 2019. What started as a quartet is now a quintet, though still led by the smoky, ethereal lead vocals of Sam Sarty (vocals, trombone, ...

No Age: "Send Me"

Image
Myself currently employed at a corporate entity, I've certainly been exposed to and/or required to attend the sort of soul-sucking meetings addressed in the latest No Age video for the song, "Send Me." I will say, though, I haven't had to be taught how to use a stapler, so this video certainly depicts a level of day job hell I've yet to experience. As far as the song, "Send Me" is the type of glossy, lo-fidelity track No Age is known to produce, jangly riffs and a quivering tonal backdrop that deepens the duo's sound. This song is featured in the band's Drag City debut, Snares Like A Haircut , which is releasing January 26th. Check out the video below. All info on the release was provided by mutante-inc. No Age Save The People Looking for an escape from the thundering monotony of the nine-to-five? Sign up for the New No Age, Snares Like A Haircut ! The album is classic No Age - well considered from several angles, and handsomel...

"Gotta Read the Labels:" Silber Records

Image
For twenty years, Brian John Mitchell of Silber Records has been independently releasing ambient and drone projects from numerous performers and bands while publishing zines and comic books and holding down paid gigs in the real world. While I have written about some of Silber's releases in the past, I thought I'd take the opportunity to throw a spotlight on the label by posting about three new releases for June. If you like what you hear, I encourage you to head over to the site and spend a couple bucks. Yellow6 Springsun/Conrad#2 Silber Records Released: 5.30.16 See that cover? That's exactly what Yellow6 's two-track Springsun/Conrad#2 release sounds like. Gorgeous and vast, it's the type of lush and ambient arrangement you want to hear as dawn transitions into morning. You can purchase the album digitally here . springsun by Yellow6 Chvad SB Phenomenalism, Cartesian Doubt and Bomb #20 Silber Records Released: 5.3...

The Inbox Giveth: Machines Learning

Image
Machines Learning Success Has Many Fathers While Failure in an Orphan EP Machines Recording Records Released: 1.1.13 With crunchy chords that induce a dreamy gaze and generate heavy fields of sonic thrust, Machines Learning has taken cues from Billy Corgan and Kevin Shields and interprets these influences well. Their new 3-song EP, Success Has Many Fathers While Failure is an Orphan , is immersed in a lush and serrated tone, texture and grace allowed to coexist. With Machines Learning, there is definitely an appeal to nostalgia for anyone pining for the days of flannel shirts and 120 Minutes , when Loveless was new and legitimate college radio won mainstream attention. While "Strong Men Also Cry" opens the EP with an Explosions in the Sky styled post-rock instrumental that doesn't seem too out of character with the past decade or so, the following song, "The Island in the Hills," is an exercise in reminiscence: the drum sounds and stride, th...

What I Heard This Morning/Week/Last Week: Arc In Round, Ape School, Rumplestiltskin Grinder

Image
Some Philadelphia bred groups for you. The hometown bursts with talent and gets little to no press. First, Arc In Round . Juan Edgardo Rodriguez , the managing editor of No Ripcord, sent me a song and the band's self-titled album a few weeks ago. While I haven't been able to completely absorb the album yet, (been listening to two or three other albums for upcoming reviews), the band's single, "Hallowed" , I really enjoyed. There's a shoegazing, pop-infused bounce to the song I find very engaging.
Arc in Round by Arc In Round
I will, at some point, listen to the entire album, which was released June 26th. ____________________________________________________________ Next is Ape School , who will be releasing a new album later this August called, Junior Viole...
