Buzz Osbourne: "Dark Brown Teeth"

Image
Melvins Unplugged...  I, like many of you following the ever-prolific and constancy of the Melvins, have been hearing of this Buzz Osbourne acoustic work.  I hadn't posted anything because I wanted to hear something before fashioning any opinion.  So, Rolling Stone posted this "Dark Brown Teeth" track, which is characteristically aggro.  He maintains a good level of energy, managing to tone it down without betraying his Buzz-ness.  It's pretty cool.  The album is called This Machine Kills Artists and it's out on Ipecac.  It's out June 3rd.  All info comes courtesy of Speakeasy PR & Marketing. Photo credit: Mackie Osborne   THE MELVINS' BUZZ OSBORNE RELEASES FULL-LENGTH SOLO DEBUT, THIS MACHINE KILLS ARTISTS, JUNE 3 VIA IPECAC RECORDINGS  Los Angeles, March 18, 2014 - Buzz Osborne, the legendary grunge progenitor who has helmed the Melvins for thirty plus years, releases his debut solo full-length album, This Machine ...

The Melvins: "American Cow" (Single)

Image
For the purposes of promoting their upcoming new album, Tres Cabrones , The Melvins have released a new single that sounds as old school as the line-up that conceived it, original drummer Mike Dillard having rejoined the band for the release.  The song is "American Cow."  The speed?  Slow.  The hands that mold and perform?  Heavy.  It's available through SPIN . The info comes to you courtesy of Rarely Unable. THE MELVINS PREMIERE "AMERICAN COW" VIA SPIN; TRES CABRONES PRE ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW The Melvins premiere “American Cow,” from the forthcoming album Tres Cabrones (released, Nov. 4, Ipecac) via Spin ( http://www.spin.com/articles/ melvins-1983-tres-cabrones- american-cow-ipecac-records- stream/ ).   Pre-orders for the record are available now: http://georiot.co/44Wg. “ Tres Cabrones is as close as we’re willing to get to the Melvins 1983 line-up,” explained Osborne , of the 12-song album that reunites him, Dale Crover and original dr...

Everybody Loves Sausages: An album of covers from The Melvins

Image
Because the Melvins never seem to run out of excuses to release more material, a covers album featuring an admirable list of collaborators will be coming out in April called Everybody Loves Sausages .  Both the Lite and Big Business line-ups of the Melvins are featured and guests include Jello Biafra ( Dead Kennedys ), Scott Kelly ( Neurosis ) and Mark Arm ( Mudhoney ). All info has been provided by Rarely Unable. GUESTS INCLUDE MARK ARM, JELLO BIAFRA, JG THIRLWELL AND SCOTT KELLY The Melvins return with a 13-track covers album titled Everybody Loves Sausages which is set for an Apr. 29 release in UK/EU via Ipecac Recordings . "This record will give people a peak into the kind of things that influence us musically," explains Buzz Osborne . "We REALLY like all of these songs along with the bands who actually wrote this stuff because first and foremost we are HUGE music fans." In a decidedly Melvins approach to a covers album, the band not only s...

Melvins (Lite): Freak Puke

Image
It's only been days since covering news of the upcoming Melvins EP, The Bulls & The Bees . As The Melvins do tend to employ a work ethic that leads to both an admirable and prolific stretch of creativity and an annoying spring of recorded excess that's damn near impossible for completists to follow, news of Melvins Lite comes as a "really?" to anyone even somewhat knowledgeable as to degree of the band's output. To delve into their catalogue is to dive headfirst into a deep chasm of recorded work from which you MIGHT successfully emerge, provided you're obsessed, well-researched and wealthy. Even then, I imagine it would take years to acquire all their work as the various offshoots, projects and permutations churn out music with enviable gusto. So, Melvins Lite is comprised of mainstays Buzz Osbourne and Dale Crover , combining efforts with the amazing Trevor Dunn ( Mr. Bungle , Fantômas ).  Their new album, (a long player), Freak Puke , will be o...

The Melvins: The Bulls & The Bees (and the car business, apparently)

Image
The Melvins will be releasing a new EP in March titled, The Bulls & The Bees , brought to you by Scion A/V, which is the "sponsorship of America's Musical Underground" branch of Scion, which is the "sell a car" branch of the automobile industry. I guess I can get behind any presence that encourages, promotes and exposes what would otherwise be considered non -commercialized, non -funded arts and music, even if it's done so with corporate sponsorship. Not sure if this really works from an integrity standpoint, but The Melvins are releasing an EP thanks to Scion A/V's backing. Maybe the ends justify the means. I know one thing:  Only a new release from The Melvins could get me to throw any ink toward Scion, so I hope they appreciate it.  Not that they, y'know, read me or know of my existence or anything. The Bulls & The Bees will be available as a free download upon its release.  The Melvins' new single, "The War On Wisdom,...
