Adam "MCA" Yauch (1964-2012)

"Last night, I took a 14 hour flight to Sydney, Australia from LA, embarking on P.E.'s 80th tour in 25 years. I just landed to 65 texts with the news. Adam and the Boys put us on our first tour 25 years and 79 tours ago. They were essential to our beginning, middle and today. Adam especially was unbelievable in our support from then `til now, even allowing me to induct them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I consider myself a strong man and my father says be prepared to lose many in your post-50 path of life. Still, I'm a bit teary-eyed leaving this plane. R.I.P. Adam aka MCA." — Chuck D It's going to be difficult to imagine life without The Beastie Boys . News of Adam "MCA" Yauch 's passing wasn't the easiest to absorb on Friday afternoon, nor was the realization that the seemingly ever-present Beastie Boys had suddenly ceased to be.    HeI've felt compelled to listen to nothing but the Beastie Boys for days now, both for the sake ...

Beastie Boys: “Make Some Noise”/”Say It”

Image
Caught the Fight For Your Right Revisited video today on the Beastie Boys ’ official site along with pre-order information and a slew of purchasing options.  The video's cameos are both excellent and ridiculous.  While doing a little research on the video, I happened upon another new single from the upcoming Hot Sauce Committee Part Two called “Say It,” which is available at Some Kind Of Awesome .  Unlike Part One , Part Two is still being released May 3rd.  I haven't been excited about a Beastie Boys album in quite some time. Sincerely, Letters From A Tapehead P.S. -- Something else to keep in mind:

Beastie Boys: Too Many Rappers (featuring Nas)

The Beastie Boys ’ Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 will release in 2011 according to a confusing press release. See if you can make sense of it. Via the Beastie Boys’ newsletter: BEASTIE BOYS HOT SAUCE COMMITTEE PART 2 TRACK LISTING REVISED, REPLACED ENTIRELY WITH SONGS ORIGINALLY RECORDED FOR HOT SAUCE COMMITTEE PART 1 In what can only be described as a bizarre coincidence, following an exhaustive re-sequence marathon, Beastie Boys have verified that their new Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 will be comprised of the same 16 tracks originally slated for inclusion on Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 . The record ( part 2 that is) will be released as planned in spring 2011 on Capitol. The tracks originally recorded for Hot Sauce Committee Part 2  (which now are actually back on Part 1 ) have now apparently been bumped to make room for the former Hot Sauce Committee Part 1  material. Wait, what? "I know it's weird and confusing, but at leas...

MCA’s statement...

As the Beastie Boys have spent the year on a reissue kick, they’ve also been prepping the release of their new album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1 , which was supposed to hit the shelves in mid-September. However, plans for the album, and subsequent tour, have been postponed due to the following: It would be an understatement to express that the Beastie Boys are one of the pinnacle bands in my life, an indispensible aspect of my past and present. As their music’s filled many a backdrop in the episodic events of my life that I can still recall, and been spliced in many a tape I’ve recorded over the years, the news of Adam Yauch ’s run in with cancer doesn’t go over without some sort of reaction. His optimism and sense of humor are intact, so I’m sure he’ll pull through and the Beasties will continue to keep the party going a little longer. It would be a sad world without them. Well wishes from a big fan, Letters From A Tapehead

Beastie Boys w/ The Roots: So What'cha Want

The Beastie Boys were the guests on Jimmy Fallon's show last night, promoting their upcoming new album, Hot Sauce Committee , and their latest reissue of Check Your Head . As a musical segment, the Beasties got to jam on "So What'cha Want" with The Roots . Works for me: Sincerely, Letters From A Tapehead

We Interrupt This Program...

...to bring you a couple things I'm really looking forward to in June. The Beastie Boys will be releasing an all-instrumental album called, The Mix Up . Below is a video for one of the tracks featured. Smooth grooves, lots of promise. This will be out June 26th. While we're on the topic of The Beastie Boys, Adam Yauch has produced the latest release by the mighty Bad Brains . Build A Nation is their first release in over 10 years, (since 1995's God Of Love as far as I know), and it's supposed to be somewhat of a return to their old school, hardcore roots. I heard a couple tracks and, if they're any indication, it should be an awesome album. And, like The Beastie Boys, expect this to hit the shelves on June 26th. And last, but certainly not least, I'm most looking forward to Era Vulgaris by the incredible Queens of the Stone Age . This will be out on June 12th and I will undoubtedly be rocking the fuck out of this one all summer long. June should be ...
