The Week's Mixtape (SIDE A) — Tomato Flower, Sea Change, El Ten Eleven, AEVITERNE, Low, Die Wilde Jagd, Maya Shenfield

Side A — Assembled 1/3-1/7 Following the turbulence of the Holidays and the excessive work schedules leading up to them, music continues to be my long sought-after balm for stress and the monotony of corporate drone'dom. Side A for the first week of January is light and loud, meditative or necessarily aggro. I'm happily excited about some of the records and singles I've had the opportunity to sample so far. Is it naive to assume this trend will continue well into 2023? Probably, but I'm content for now.  Enjoy…  ______________________________________________________________________ Tomato Flower : "Red Machine" (via Ramp Local) Bandcamp — https://tomatoflower.bandcamp.com/album/gold-arc Ramp Local — https://ramplocal.com Gold Arc releases 2/11/22 ______________________________________________________________________ Sea Change : "Is There Anybody There" (via Stereo Sanctity) Twitter — https://twitter.com/SeaChangeartist Shapes Recordings — https...

Insect Ark: "Tectonic"

Image
I'm a sucker for a muddy bass line. Insect Ark , owned and operated by the excellent Dana Schechter , has a new release coming out called, The Vanishing . Out on 2/28 via Profound Lore, Insect Ark, now with the aid of drummer Andy Patterson , continues to marry eerie soundscapes with hypnotic rhythmic loops. This project grows with every release and the results are always worth a listen. Audio, links, and info provided by Earsplit PR. INSECT ARK: Instrumental Psychedelic Doom Duo Completes Work On New Album, The Vanishing , Set For Release February 28th Through Profound Lore Records; New Track Streaming Photo by Chad Kelco INSECT ARK — currently made up of founder Dana Schechter ( Swans ) and Andy Patterson (ex SubRosa ) — have been crafting uncomfortable soundscapes that feel both intimate and icy cold since 2011. Nightmarish horror film-like visions, outer space travel, and gritty noir textures were explored in their previous offerings — the much-praised Portal / We...

New Selections — Torche, Lingua Ignota, Zig Zags, Oh Sees, Chastity Belt

A tad overdue on this one. Torche : "Admission" (via Speakeasy PR / Relapse Records / YouTube) Via Speakeasy PR: MIAMI, July 2, 2019 – Torche has unveiled a video for “Admission”, with the clip for the album’s title track created by the band’s own Rick Smith and Jonathan Nuñez . “' Admission,' the title track off of our new album, is an extremely important song to us on many levels. Steve has opened the doors to a deep and personal place, lyrically shedding light on his personal life, and I worked hard and diligently to capture the feeling of a song I wrote during trying times, ” explains guitar player Nuñez, who also produced the album which is slated for a July 12 release via Relapse Records. “Through the use of effects and various pedals, including a couple of my own line, Nuñez Amps, the feeling of the track took the shape it was destined for. The delays and heavy overdrive are essential to the song and we wanted a video to visually capture what the ...

Insect Ark: "In The Nest"

Some Earth -centric dirt-encrusted trudge for your day…  It was announced that Insect Ark , now functioning as a two-person collaboration between one-time sole insect Dana Schechter and drummer Ashley Spungin , will be releasing a new album in early 2018 titled Marrow Hymns .  The lead single, "In The Nest," bakes and blisters as if charred by intense heat, its movement dramatic as if fighting against some external elements at odds with progress.  Anticipation is high with this one.   Words regarding other Insect Ark projects: 2013's Long Arms  EP "The Collector" taken from the 2015 LP,  Portal/Well Marrow Hymns is scheduled to release 2.23.18 via Profound Lore Records .  Music, links, and info were provided by Earplit PR.
