Here are some online orders (and one concert purchase) to dissect.  Enjoy. Sunn O))) Online Store Sunn O))) Black One Southern Lord Recordings Reissued: 2013 I know I've probably talked this band to death this year (and I'm not finished yet... ahem, Soused ), but Sunn O))) 's 2005 LP, Black One , has been on my list for quite some time.  It was for me an elusive acquisition, copies selling out pretty quickly whenever a limited run would be produced and made available.  This time, however, I managed to grab a copy and it's a nice package: Textured cover art with beautifully printed silver dust jackets housing thick, grey vinyl.  I almost felt bad opening it, but it sounds great pushing through speakers.  It's just inimitable, reverberating bleakness.  Price was $35.  I will say, though, that I think I'm done with ordering vinyl from the Sunn O))) Online Store.  This is the second time I've received an order and the album has...

Shopping For Records: More Superior Viaduct reissues — electric eels, Glenn Branca and Alain Goraguer

Reissue label extraordinaire, Superior Viaduct, is prepping some more out-of-print and/or obscure excellence to be released this November from proto-punk crazies electric eels , No Wave figurehead Glenn Branca and composer Alain Goraguer .  I'm especially excited about the Branca reissue, which is his solo debut, The Ascension .  I've had this album on my wishlist for many years, so I'm glad I waited on picking it up since a proper 12" edition will be available in the coming months. All info is provided courtesy of Howlin' Wuelf Media.  Superior Viaduct releasing archival albums from electric eels, Glenn Branca and Alain Goraguer in November The highly ambitious and ever-so-discerning re-issue label Superior Viaduct label will be releasing their next batch of releases on November 25. Cleveland's electric eels (all lower case in homage to poet e.e. cummings ) is America's quintessential proto-punk band. Formed in 1972 by singer Dave E. McManus ...

Shopping For Records: Superior Viaduct reissues The Gun Club, The Flesh Eaters, Brigitte Fontaine and Heldon

Image
I was on vacation last week, (and offline for the most part), so I didn't get to post about this until today. Howard Wuelfing of Howlin' Wuelf Media sent over two press releases with info about some new Superior Viaduct reissues, the most exciting of which is The Gun Club 's Fire of Love , which has been out of print for quite some time. Also reissued are A Minute to Pray a Second to Die by The Flesh Eaters , the 1972 self-titled release from Brigitte Fontaine and Allez-Téia by Heldon (a.k.a, Richard Pinhas ).   As mentioned, but shall reiterate for the sake of credit being properly given, all info has been provided by Howlin' Wuelf Media.  The Flesh Eaters is the name behind one Chris Desjardins aka Chris D. Taking his stage name from a 1964 cult film, Chris D. wrote for legendary fanzine Slash in the late '70s and assembled the first of many Flesh Eaters line-ups from heavyweights in the burgeoning L.A. punk scene. After releasing a ravenous EP an...
