More Record Store Day enticements.  I'm not too familiar with The Wake, but I did enjoy the "On Our Honeymoon" track enough to possibly add their reissued 7"s to my ever-expanding wish list.

In celebration of record store day, Captured Tracks is releasing two classic, hard to find singles by highly influential Scottish post-punk band, The Wake. These two releases book-end the 80's for the band, as their privately released On Our Honeymoon 7" on Scan in 1982 was their first (and only) pre-Factory record, while Crush the Flowers 7" is their final release in the 80's (1989) and their first post-Factory record for the illustrious Sarah label.

In conjunction with those two releases, Captured Tracks is offer a tribute white vinyl 7" featuring faithful and well-crafted Wake-approved covers of two classic songs by two Captured Tracks artists, Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing, available direct from the label's site or participating stores. The bundle of all three 7" records will come with reproduced buttons of The Wake.

Sleaford Mods Chubbed Up + Ipecac Recordings Released:11.29.14 Sleaford Mods is an interesting entity. Following much of the rhythmic and minimal throb of Factory-era post-punk and, of course, hip hop's rise from being a "sample sport," as Public Enemy once put it, to the largely trap-centric hit machine it is today, Sleaford Mods embodies a tirade-level synthesis of the two: a beat-powered device with which to bathe in poetic and profanity-laced commentary. The group (vocalist Jason Williamson and track maker Andrew Fearn ) gained some notoriety stateside with its 2013 release, Austerity Dogs , despite having been about five albums deep in its discography. The group's new release, Chubbed Up +, is a singles compilation that includes three previously unreleased tracks. It was released by Ipecac Recordings. I received an email via Sure Shot PR that was promoting Hemlock Recordings as well as their new acquisition, Breton . The band has a new EP out: A digital release entitled, Counter Balance . “RDI” is the song I sampled and it is a post-rock-meets-electronica mixture that seems to capitalize a bit on Foals , (an assessment all too accurately made in the press release by a writer for NME). The melodies they pick, though, are catchy and “RDI” really didn’t leave my head all day.
