It's almost 9PM on the final Sunday of the month of January. Sheltered from the outside chill, my headphones are strapped on and I'm reviewing some new singles for this week's mixtape while mentally preparing myself for a demanding and high-pressure stretch of the days till next Friday. Won't be long before the dog needs a walk and we're both stomping through the elements, the crunch of salt and snow our soundtrack. 

Apparently, I'd forgotten I'd already purchased Boris's new LP, W, from Bandcamp and I foolishly bought another variant directly from Sacred Bones. So, now I have the "sea blue" and the "baby blue w/ white starburst" variants, the latter of which I'll probably keep sealed. I'm also still waiting on my copy of Sunn O)))'s Metta, Benevolence. BBC 6Music: Live on the Invitation of Mary Anne Hobbs. I'm supposed to get that this week. It's available to hear at Sunn O)))'s Bandcamp.

What I Heard This Morning: Snapped Ankles

Received notice this morning of a band called Snapped Ankles , who will be releasing a single in late March called, "True Ecology (Shit Everywhere)."  It's a decent art rock tune and my mind immediately went to Devo for comparison's sake.  The linked version of the song is very short, so I'm assuming it's an excerpt of the single. All info comes courtesy of Sure Shot PR. DEBUT SINGLE 'TRUE ECOLOGY (SHIT EVERYWHERE) OUT ON 25th MARCH 2013 London post-punk outfit Snapped Ankles release their debut single 'True Ecology (shit everywhere)' on Ears Have Eyes on 25th March 2013. Following much of the rhythmic and minimal throb of Factory-era post-punk and, of course, hip hop's rise from being a "sample sport," as Public Enemy once put it, to the largely trap-centric hit machine it is today, Sleaford Mods embodies a tirade-level synthesis of the two: a beat-powered device with which to bathe in poetic and profanity-laced commentary. The group (vocalist Jason Williamson and track maker Andrew Fearn ) gained some notoriety stateside with its 2013 release, Austerity Dogs , despite having been about five albums deep in its discography. The group's new release, Chubbed Up +, is a singles compilation that includes three previously unreleased tracks. It was released by Ipecac Recordings.
